Stella McCartney and LVMH Beauty launch “eco-conscious” skincare line, scented by Francis Kurkdjian
26 Aug 2022 --- Daughter of singer Paul McCartney, Stella McCartney, luxury fashion designer, has partnered once again with LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton) Beauty division to launch her skincare line, Stella by Stella McCartney.
The skincare line carries the scent “high cliff,” created in collaboration with perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, founder and artistic director at Maison Francis Kurkdjian and perfume creation director at Parfums Christian Dior.
The range comes with three products: Reset Cleanser, Alter-Care Serum and Restore Cream. They were explored and developed with LVMH Recherche, the Group’s beauty R&D unit, offering “clinically-proven results” that aid skin regeneration and protection.
Result of three years
McCartney is lauded for bringing conscious luxury fashion into the industry and is taking the same ambition into the luxury skincare space. Her marketing approach supports “caring for ourselves and Mother Earth.” The Stella skincare line is vegan, cruelty-free and natural-based.
“I am delighted that Stella McCartney, after pioneering sustainable and responsible luxury fashion, is now partnering with LVMH, committed to changing the codes of cosmetics, the packaging and the ingredients,” says Antoine Arnault, image and environment at LVMH.
“We set out with an idea, and because we didn’t want to compromise – on outstanding results, the origin of our ingredients, and, of course, ensuring we minimize our impact on Mother Earth – we kept on trying,” details McCartney.
“We worked hard for almost three years with LVMH constantly evolving and aiming for what I felt was possible: rooted in nature, truly effective and responsible skincare The consumer needs to know there’s another way, that they have a choice.”
“Only what you need”
The skincare line is also based on Stella’s personal belief in using “only what you need.”
Moreover, the product life cycle is also designed to minimize its impact on the planet. This includes the formulation ingredients, packaging and operations. The formulas are made with at least 99% natural-origin ingredients, available in refills.
The products are available on Stella’s website and a selection of UK retailers and boutiques. The brand is also supporting the conservation NGO Wetlands International by committing to donate 1% of the net sales of Stella skincare.
Going green
Renewable chemistry technology business Avantium recently struck a conditional offtake agreement with LVMH Group. Via the deal, LVMH Perfumes and Cosmetics Houses have obtained a predetermined amount of the high-quality, plant-based polyethylene furanoate material from Avantium’s Flagship Plant for its cosmetics packaging.
Additionally, the beauty giant has delivered an “excellent” 34% profit increase in the first half of 2022. Despite the growth, the company expressed it will move forward with “vigilance” in the latter half of the year due to the current geopolitical and health situation.
Earlier this year, LVMH Beauty signed a multi-year capacity reservation agreement with material provider Origin Materials to purchase carbon-negative polyethylene terephthalate for fragrance and cosmetics packaging.
