Weleda adds three products to Skin Food line featuring sunflower seed oil and rosemary extract
16 Jun 2023 --- Weleda has released three new products for its Skin Food line. The items include Skin Food Nourishing Cleansing Gel, Skin Food Nourishing Day Cream and Skin Food Nourishing Night Cream.
All the skin care is 100% natural, organic and vegan. The products are designed to moisturize and nourish facial skin.
The Skin Food line has been around since 1926. The Skin Food menu already has five products, now culminating to eight. The nourishing all-in-one cream is the “best known” from the line. Skin Food Nourishing Facial Care nourishes and moisturizes normal and dry skin.
The Skin Food line includes medicinal plant extracts with tricolor violet, organic calendula and chamomile at the heart of the formula. Additional ingredients include olive leaf extract for the day cream and sacha-inchi oil for the night cream.
Natural focus
Weleda says the combination of ingredients calms the skin, restores the skin barrier and “ensures silky smooth skin.” Both creams have a light texture and sink into the skin quickly.
This affection for natural elements is also reflected in the product’s packaging. For example, Skin Food Nourishing Cleansing Gel is contained in a tube of 100% recycled aluminum, while Skin Food Nourishing Day and Night Cream are in a jar made from recycled green glass.

Weleda’s oil to milk cleaner is now added to the Skin Food line. The Skin Food Nourishing Cleansing Gel aims to cleanse the skin deeply and mildly while removing makeup. It claims not to dry out the skin. The 75 ml tube retails for €11.99 (US$12.96).
Notable ingredients in the cleansing gel include sunflower seed oil, glycerin, rosemary leaf extract, matricaria flower extract and calendula officinalis flower extract.
The Skin Food Nourishing Day Cream is said to moisturize immediately while nourishing and strengthening the skin barrier. It comes in a 40 ml tub for €16.99 (US$18.36). Potent ingredients in this product feature sunflower seed oil, shea butter, squalane, rhus verniciflua peel wax, olive leaf extract and acacia senegal gum.
The Skin Food Nourishing Night Cream also moisturizes and nourishes the skin while strengthening the skin barrier and stimulating cell renewal. The 40 ml pot retails for €17.99 (US$19.44). This product features similar ingredients as the two new products.
Other developments
Earlier this year, Weleda and other cosmetics companies urged the European Commission (EC) in an open letter to strengthen upcoming legislation around microplastics by banning them in beauty products.
The companies asserted that the “exceptionally long” transition periods in the current proposal, especially 12 years for leave-on products such as makeup, are incompatible with ongoing EC initiatives and are therefore said to have no justification.
Additionally, the skin care company has received a B Corp certification that highlighted the company’s dedication to healthy soils, preservation of biodiversity, biodynamic and regenerative agriculture and fair trade. Weleda had a score of 106.9 and has 100% of its products certified as natural cosmetics by the International Natural and Organic Cosmetics Association.
