Y-Brush brings ultra-efficient electric toothbrush to US after European success

04 Jan 2023 --- The third generation sonic Y-shaped toothbrush Y-Brush, which reportedly has about 100,000 users in Europe, has entered the US market with the capacity to polish a set of pearly whites in 10 seconds. Y-Brush will launch its US module at the CES 2023 tech show in Las Vegas, US, from January 5-8.

The company claims to make brushing teeth simpler, quicker and more efficient. The toothbrush has a handle that transmits sonic vibrations and spins 360 degrees.

The head is composed of 35,000 nylon bristles, allowing all sides of the teeth to be brushed simultaneously and effectively in 10 seconds.

According to a study titled “Powered versus manual toothbrushing for oral health,” carried out by Pubmed and published in Cochrane Library, electric toothbrushes are up to 21% more effective than their manual counterparts. The same study found that electric toothbrushes using sonic technology are much gentler on the gums than the ones using oscillating technology.

Spinning 360 degrees for dental health
The Y-shaped brush head allows the user to access hard-to-reach areas, a major cause of tooth decay and often the cause of dental cavities. The brushing intensity can be adjusted at three speeds, from five to 15 seconds. An unlimited vibration mode is also provided.

The brush can remove more plaque than a traditional toothbrush without damaging the gums. The patented technology allows it to naturally position the bristles at a 45-degree angle against the teeth, which dentists recommend for optimal cleaning.

In addition, Y-Brush is a good solution for people with disabilities who cannot brush properly with traditional brushes.The Y-shaped brush head provides easy access to hard-to-reach areas.

The American Dental Association identifies a connection between brushing styles, the type of toothbrush one uses and the amount of dental costs incurred. Restorative treatments can cause a significant deterioration in quality of life.

According to the association, the top 10% of oral care expenditure per patient averaged US$1,624 in 2013, representing 2.5 times the national average the same year (US$685).

These costs are primarily linked to expensive dental treatments, often not covered by medical insurance. In 2020, one-third of US citizens aged 65 years and above reported losing six or more teeth due to dental cavities or gum disease.

In October 2022, a nation-wide online poll by Product of the Year UK showed that the key oral care concerns among British citizens are decay prevention (55%), trumping breath freshness (22%), sensitivity (22%) and whitening (1%) when buying a toothpaste product.

The average time spent brushing is around 45 seconds to one minute in different countries worldwide, much shorter than the two minutes recommended by dentists.

Children often tend to brush much less than the recommended duration, which means that bad habits are often rooted at an early age. There are, however, significant consequences to neglecting oral health.

Boosting infant oral health
The results produced by Y-Brush are notable for children’s oral health, who often lack the patience to execute a proper brushing cycle.

For the 91% of children aged between five and 11 years who have visited the dentist in the last year, using NylonStart for Kids shows promising results during follow-up dental visits and builds a foundation for good oral care.

Over the long term, this can help correct the dental care gap. In 2020, only two-thirds of US adults reported having visited a dentist in the preceding year, compared to nearly 90% of children.
